Minnesota to hold tryouts at Hammond Stadium
FORT MYERS, FL – An annual tradition since their inception in 1961, the Minnesota Twins will hold an open tryout camp for aspiring ballplayers in Fort Myers on Saturday, June 7. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. in front of the Hammond Stadium ticket office.
Anyone eligible to sign a professional contract may register, but players must be high school graduates who have not previously been drafted. They also may not fall under the restriction of major league baseball’s college agreement.
Participants should bring their own gloves and shoes, while the Twins will provide bats and balls. Tryouts are expected to last the entire day. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunches.
The Twins have placed several players from the camp into their minor league system. Three players from the camp have made it to the Major Leagues: pitchers Charley Walters (1966) and Gary Serum (1975) and shortstop Jerry Terrell (1968).
The camp is conducted by the Twins player development staff.
